Sleeping at Seattle airport overnight

SEA has no sleep pods or day rooms. Checkpoint 4 runs 24 hours, and the USO stays open until 4 a.m. on some nights. Where to rest and find a bed.

For an overnight bed at SEA, try Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center or take a hotel shuttle. The airport has no sleep pods or day rooms. Checkpoint 4 runs 24 hours, and five places after security are listed as open 24 hours. The Starbucks in the Central Terminal is one.

What the airport says about staying overnight

The Port of Seattle’s directory lists no public sleep pods, nap rooms or day rooms. Our sleeping and resting page has the airport-listed options. The only beds inside the airport are in the USO Center above Checkpoint 4, before security. The Port of Seattle lists it for traveling military members and their families, with all services free. It opens at 8 a.m. daily. It stays open until 4 a.m. the next day on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. It closes at midnight on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and at 8 p.m. on Sunday.

For help before security, try the information desk on the ticketing level between Checkpoints 4 and 5. There’s another on baggage claim in the Gina Marie Lindsey Arrivals Hall near Checkpoint 1. After security, the A Concourse desk sits between Gates A5 and A6. The Port of Seattle lists Pathfinders and volunteers at the desks. You can also call SEA Customer Care at (206) 787-5388.

  • The prayer and meditation rooms are in the SEA Underground A Station hallway near the elevators, on Level 3 above Gate C3 near the Lookout, and at Skybridge 2 before security. The Port of Seattle’s listing prohibits food, drinks, resting and sleeping. The rooms stay open 24 hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Monday and Wednesday they’re open from midnight to 11:30 p.m. On Tuesday and Thursday they open at 4 a.m. and close at midnight.
  • The two sensory rooms are after security in the SEA Underground A Station hallway near the elevators and on Level 3 above Gate C3 near the Lookout. They are for anyone who feels overwhelmed. Both run 4 a.m. to midnight daily. Space is limited. The Port of Seattle lists (206) 787-5229, option 1, for the key code.
  • The Jabbrrbox pods by Gates A5 and A8 are one-person work booths. You book one on the unit itself, in 15-minute blocks up to two hours, and the Port of Seattle describes them as places for calls and meetings. The Port of Seattle says the units aren’t wheelchair accessible.

Where can you sleep at SEA?

One traveler, Alyssa Cotten, reported a connection that landed at midnight and boarded at 6:50 a.m., about seven hours to fill.

All the sleep benches at Cotten’s gate were taken, so Cotten curled up on a fixed cushioned circle seat. Cotten had seen other people sleeping earlier.

Cotten hadn’t packed an eye mask, and the lights stayed bright. Noise-cancelling headphones, a blanket and both feet on the luggage finished the setup.

Cotten woke at 4:30 a.m. Over the next half hour the stores began opening and the concourse got loud. At 5 a.m. Cotten went up to a lounge as it opened.

The bright lights and the 4:30 a.m. noise are why an eye mask and earplugs matter. The vlog covers one night, so the noise timing is only a sample.

Which concourse to pick

A, B, C and D connect airside on foot. N and S need the SEA Underground train. The terminals page and Main Terminal page give you the terminal layout.

What stays open

If you’re hungry before midnight, DISH D’LISH Food T’ Go Go at C11 closes at 11:30 p.m. Hudson at A9 closes at 11:45 p.m. Hudson at A4, Hudson at D6 and Smith Cove at S1 list midnight closing. All five are after security. One traveler’s midnight walk found only the coffee shops open, so carry a snack if you’re counting on a late meal. After security, the Starbucks by A3 and Starbucks by C9 open at 3 a.m. The Starbucks by B7 and Starbucks by D2 open at 3:30 a.m., also after security.

Place Side of security Listed hours

Hudson, Central Terminal After 24 hours

Qdoba, Gate B1 After 24 hours
Dufry Duty Free, Gate S10 After 24 hours
7-Eleven, Baggage Claim 15 Before 24 hours

SEA-FREE-WIFI works in public areas. If you’re leaving your bag while you sleep elsewhere, Smarte Carte is before security between Baggage Claim Carousels 9 and 10. It opens daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with closures from 11:30 a.m. to noon and 6 to 6:30 p.m. Bags cost $20 under 22 inches and $40 over 34 inches. The price list does not say whether charges are per day or per stay.

For a charge, the Central Terminal has a charging station and two FuelRod kiosks, and A Concourse has stations by Gates A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A8 and A9. Refill a water bottle in the Central Terminal by Hudson and by Koi Shi Sushi. For a baby, nursing pods sit near Gates B11, C10A/B and A10E, and nursing rooms are above Gate C3, near D1 and inside the A Concourse play area. Family restrooms are throughout the terminal. The lost and found is before security and open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific daily.

Which security checkpoint stays open overnight?

After midnight, Checkpoint 4 is the only checkpoint open. It’s the closest to the Central Terminal, B and C gates, and any checkpoint reaches every gate.

Checkpoint Listed hours
1 4 a.m. to 8 p.m.
2 4 a.m. to 4 p.m.
3 4 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
4 24 hours
5 4 a.m. to 8 p.m.
6 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Connecting international passengers use the IAF Transfers checkpoint, listed from 6 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Ask your airline at bag recheck about an overnight connection.

If you need to clear security in the morning, use the security wait guide to plan when to join the line.

When can you use a lounge or shower?

After security, the earliest doors are the United Club and the Delta Sky Club at A1 at 4:15 a.m. The Centurion Lounge and the three Alaska Lounges on C, N and D open at 5 a.m.

The Club at SEA sells a day pass. The A Concourse Club is after security on the A Concourse, costs $50 per visit, and the Port lists it as open 5 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. The S Concourse Club is after security above Gate S10, costs $60 per visit, and the Port lists it as open 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. The listed entry window starts three hours before departure, and neither Club accepts airline lounge memberships. One Condor business-class traveler in a Mike Cannon Adventures video reported being told the A Concourse Club wasn’t taking Condor tickets and that entry would be $50 each, so an American Express Platinum card got them in.

The Port of Seattle lists no public showers for travelers without lounge access. Our shower guide lists showers at five lounges after security: Delta Sky Club by A1, Delta Sky Club & Delta One Lounge by A11, Centurion Lounge in the Central Terminal, The Club at SEA above S10 and British Airways Terraces Lounge by S9. Each lounge sets its own entry rules, listed in our lounge directory.

When a hotel beats the gate

Cotten had considered a hotel and stayed at the gate.

Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center lists a walk of about five minutes from the terminals. It’s beside the SeaTac/Airport light rail station on International Boulevard and also offers a complimentary shuttle. If you’d rather walk than wait for a ride, start there.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Seattle Airport has the shortest listed distance at 0.25 mile, with a complimentary shuttle. Hilton Garden Inn Seattle Airport is listed at 0.48 mile, also with a complimentary shuttle. Seattle Airport Marriott is listed at 0.5 mile and offers a complimentary shuttle booked through its front desk. Don’t read those distances as walking times.

Hotel shuttles board on garage Level 3, on the courtesy island lane at Islands 1A to 1D, 2A and 3A to 3C. These hotels list a shuttle that runs around the clock:
