Smoking at Seattle airport
SEA lists three outdoor smoking spots, Doors 5, 33 and 00, all before security. Which door fits your airline, what's banned, and the re-screen.

Smoking at SEA happens outdoors, at three spots the Port lists by Doors 5, 33 and 00. All three sit before security. A cigarette after security means walking out and screening again.
Where the three smoking spots are
The Port of Seattle’s directory and map put each spot outside the terminal doors.
| Spot | Level | Outside near |
|---|---|---|
| Door 5 | Departures | AMC, Philippine Airlines and Singapore Airlines check-in |
| Door 33 | Departures | Alaska and Hawaiian check-in |
| Door 00 | Baggage claim | The exit for international arrivals |
Before a flight, use the door beside your airline’s check-in. Our airlines pages say where each carrier checks in. After landing, Door 00 is on the baggage claim level.
The Port publishes no hours for the spots.
Where smoking is banned
The Port’s smoking page bans smoking in four places:
- Inside the terminal
- Everywhere in the airport garage
- On the upper and lower airport drives, except at the designated spots
- In all airfield locations
The airport’s interactive map also marks a smoking area on garage level 1. The Port’s smoking page says the whole garage is off limits, and so don’t smoke in the garage.
A smoke after security costs a re-screen
Once you’re through security, you have to leave the secure area, smoke at one of the three doors, and clear a checkpoint again. The Port doesn’t publish how long that takes, and the time depends on the line.
Gates on the N and S Concourses sit on satellites reached by train, so a smoker there starts with a train ride back before the walk to a door.
On the way back:
- Every checkpoint reaches every gate, so you don’t need to return to the one you used.
- After 10 p.m., only Checkpoint 3 (until 11:30 p.m.) and Checkpoint 4 (open 24 hours) are open.
- The Port says peaks are before 9 a.m., from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 9 to 11 p.m.
Smoke before you clear security. The Port advises arriving two hours before a domestic departure and three before an international one, which leaves time at Door 5 or Door 33 first. On a short connection, skip it.
