Lost something at Seattle airport? Lost and found, airlines and TSA

File SEA's free online lost item report first. The office by Carousel 13 is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Items left on the plane or at a cruise pier go elsewhere.

For an item lost at a TSA checkpoint, file SEA’s free lost-property report. If you left something on the plane, file with your airline. For a checked bag that did not arrive, use our delayed baggage guide.

Pier 66 or Pier 91 cruise terminal Your cruise line Ask Guest Relations first. Items found at the terminal go to ship security on sailing day.

If your cruise has ended, contact the terminal manager. The terminals don’t store found items. At Pier 66 that is Cruise Terminals America ([email protected], 206-644-1355). At Pier 91 it is Metro Cruise Services ([email protected], 206-245-2484).

Filing the report

The airport form asks for your contact information, where and when you lost the item, and a description. Add details that separate yours from another black phone or backpack: its case, stickers, contents or serial number if you have it. If you remember a gate, include its full letter and number.

What happens after you file

SEA emails a confirmation when you submit the report. It says you’ll get another update three days later, then weekly updates for the following month. SEA checks your description against the items turned in. A match prompts an email or phone call with return options. Items turned in to SEA Lost and Found are held for at least 30 days.

The Port warns that unverified third-party sites charge people to seek lost items. Use the airport’s own form, even if another site appears first in search results.

If you left it at security

TSA does not send confiscated items to SEA Lost and Found. Include the checkpoint number if you remember it. TSA asks you to allow up to six months for a claim about an item lost at its checkpoint to be fully investigated.

Left on the plane, or a bag that never came out

For something left aboard, file with Alaska, American, Delta, Southwest or United. If you flew another carrier, check the Port’s airline contact list. Keep your flight number and seat location handy when you report an item left in the cabin.

For a missing checked bag, our baggage claim page maps the airline offices: Delta at Claim 6, Air Canada and United at Claim 9, Southwest at Claim 10, Alaska at Claim 14, and American at Claim 16.

The Port lists these missing-bag phone lines, and the delayed or lost baggage guide covers what to ask:

American 800-433-7300

Go to the office, call or arrange a return

SEA Airport Lost and Found is before security on Level 3, the baggage claim level, across from Carousel 13 near Door 18. The phone number is (206) 787-5312. Its listed hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific daily, with closures on Martin Luther King Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. If the office can’t help, SEA Customer Care answers general airport questions at (206) 787-5388, daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific.

You don’t have to return to SEA to collect a matched item. The airport offers FedEx shipping through its reporting system and allows someone else to claim an item for you. It does not publish a shipping price on its Lost and Found page, so check the return options when the office contacts you.

If you left something in an Uber or Lyft, contact the service you booked with. Check your ride receipt, and tell the service when and where you rode. For an airport taxi, call SP Plus curbside management, which handles taxi lost and found, at (206) 708-6504.

If you found someone else’s property

During office hours, hand it to SEA Lost and Found. After security, the airport provides secure drop boxes in the concourses, including near Gates S9, B5A, C2H, D4 and N10, by the A Concourse information desk, and in the Central Terminal. Staff collect their contents once a day. After hours at the office, use the phone outside its window to report the found item. SEA doesn’t accept reports about found items without the item itself.

If the property looks suspicious or concerning, the Port says to call 911 instead of handling it as ordinary lost property.
