Flight canceled at SEA: your options tonight
Flight canceled at SEA? Check your replacement or refund, then find 24-hour food, a late lounge, a room or a $3 ride downtown.

Before you pay for a room, choose between the airline’s replacement flight and a refund. The Port of Seattle directs booking changes and baggage policies to your airline, even when SEA shows a cancellation. If you’re still at a gate, check the airline’s app while you speak to its staff. Ask whether you need to collect your checked bag before you leave for a hotel.
Before security, the 7-Eleven by Baggage Claim 15 lists 24-hour service. Our sleeping and resting page lists no public sleep pods or day rooms. For a bed, try a hotel in our hotel directory.
Get a flight you can use
Open your booking in the airline’s app or website. Check whether it has offered another flight, and look at the full itinerary before accepting it. The Port of Seattle’s SEA flight status page gives approximate updates. The FAA’s airport status page describes general airport conditions, not the status of your particular flight.
If the app doesn’t offer a workable option, contact the airline directly or speak to its staff. Tell them your final destination, not only the next airport, and ask these questions together:
- Which flight can you confirm, and what happens to every remaining leg of my booking?
- Is my checked bag going to that flight, or must I collect and check it again?
- If I have to stay tonight, will you arrange a room, transport or meals? How do I get that help?
- If I decline the replacement, can you refund this booking, and how do I request it?
Ask about a refund before accepting a flight you can’t use. If you bought a later flight on a separate ticket, contact that airline too. Don’t assume the new SEA flight changes the separate booking.
Keep the cancellation notice, new itinerary and any hotel or transport receipts together. If you’ve left the gate and need your airline’s check-in desk, our airline directory lists its location. Before leaving baggage claim, you can reach Delta’s baggage service office at Claim 6, Air Canada or United at Claim 9, Southwest at Claim 10, Alaska at Claim 14, and American at Claim 16. For a missing or delayed bag, follow our baggage claim guide and contact the airline about its baggage policy.
If you have your bag but can’t take it to a hotel, Smarte Carte Baggage Storage is on the baggage claim level, between Carousels 9 and 10. It lists daily hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with closures from 11:30 a.m. to noon and 6 to 6:30 p.m. Bag prices run from $20 to $40 by size: $20 under 22 inches, $25 for 23 to 27 inches, $30 for 28 to 30 inches, $35 for 31 to 33 inches, and $40 over 34 inches. The price list doesn’t say whether that charge covers a day or the whole stay.
Need a bed near SEA?
Book the room before going to the shuttle pickup. Confirm tonight’s availability, the total price, the shuttle’s pickup instructions and its return trip for your new flight.
Country Inn & Suites at 3100 S 192nd St and Coast Gateway Hotel at 18415 International Blvd list around-the-clock shuttles. At Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites, 19631 International Blvd, the shuttle also runs around the clock.
If those rooms are full, five more hotels list around-the-clock shuttles: Days Inn by Wyndham SeaTac Airport, Four Points by Sheraton Seattle Airport South, Hampton Inn & Suites Seattle-Airport/28th Ave, Hampton Inn Seattle-Airport, and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Seattle-Sea-Tac Airport. Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Tacoma International Airport lists the same hours, but charges per party for its shuttle. If you need to walk, Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center says it is about five minutes from the terminals. It also offers a complimentary shuttle.
Seattle Airport Marriott’s complimentary shuttle serves 3201 S 176th St. The Radisson Hotel Seattle Airport at 18118 International Blvd lists a courtesy shuttle too.
Once the hotel confirms your room and ride, follow our courtesy shuttle directions to garage Level 3. Shuttles use Islands 1A–D, 2A and 3A–C. Ask the hotel which island it uses. If its shuttle can’t take you, taxis board at the north and south curbs on garage Level 3, 24 hours a day. Wheelchair users can board taxis on the baggage claim level by Skybridge 2 near Door 10 or Skybridge 5 near Door 22. Our taxi page lists a $20 minimum fare and allows a $1 on-demand surcharge. Uber and Lyft use stalls 1–34 in the Ground Transportation Plaza and are available 24 hours a day. Compare the app’s quoted fare with the taxi minimum before you go down.
For help finding a hotel shuttle, taxi or rideshare pickup, ask at the Ground Transportation Information Booth.
If you book a room downtown, Link light rail costs $3 one way for an adult. The one-way fare is $1 with ORCA LIFT or a senior or disabled fare. Youth 18 and under ride free. From baggage claim, follow the station walk in our Link guide: head to Carousel 16, go up one floor and cross Skybridge 6. Turn left through garage Level 4 to SeaTac/Airport Station. Check the last train before you commit to a downtown room.

If you need help with the garage walk, the free Train-to-Plane cart runs between garage Level 4 near Skybridges 5 and 6 and SeaTac/Airport Station. It lists daily service from 5 a.m. to midnight.
After the last train, Sound Transit Express route 597 runs toward downtown about every 30 minutes. Board at SeaTac Station near the Link station on International Boulevard, across the pedestrian bridge.

| Sunday night | About 1:21 and 2:32 a.m. |
If you need a wheelchair from baggage claim or the garage to the ticket counter when you return, the Port of Seattle lists Prospect Airport Services. The service is free. Gratuities are appreciated.
Staying in the terminal tonight
The baggage claim Starbucks closes at 9 p.m. and Urban Market by Bag Claim 7 closes at 10 p.m., so neither is an all-night fallback. Our food directory lists other places to try before they close.
If you’re already past security, Qdoba by Gate B1, Starbucks in the Central Terminal and Dilettante Chocolates & Mocha Cafe in the Central Terminal all list 24-hour service. The Hudson in the Central Terminal also lists 24 hours. Smith Cove by Gate S1 closes at midnight.
Checkpoint 4 is listed as open 24 hours and gives access to all gates. Check your new flight’s check-in plan with the airline before you leave.
If you have a later departure and want a seat away from the gate, two paid lounges stay open late after security. Both let you in only up to three hours before departure, so a much later flight won’t get you in right away. The Club at SEA in A Concourse is across from Gate A11, near A12. It lists 5 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. daily and a $50 visit. The Club at SEA in S Concourse is on the mezzanine above Gate S10. It lists 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. daily and a $60 visit. Our lounge guide covers other access rules.
The Jabbrrbox units near Gates A5 and A8 are seated work booths, not beds. The USO Center is before security on the Main Terminal mezzanine above Checkpoint 4. It serves traveling military members and their families, and it has a bunk room. All USO services are free. Its listed hours depend on the day:
| Day | USO hours |
|---|---|
| Sunday | 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. |
| Monday, Wednesday and Saturday | 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. the next day |
| Tuesday, Thursday and Friday | 8 a.m. to midnight |
Charging stations are listed in the Central Terminal after security and by Gates A1 and S10. The Port of Seattle also offers free SEA-FREE-WIFI in public areas.
